What a full rewire normally covers

  • Removal or disconnection of outdated wiring and fittings.
  • New wiring throughout the property.
  • Standard white sockets, switches and common accessories.
  • Modern metal consumer unit where included in the quoted scope.
  • Circuit testing and electrical certification on completion.

Common costs outside the electrician quote

  • Major wall plastering and full redecoration after chasing.
  • Carpet, floorboard or finished-floor replacement.
  • Temporary accommodation where the property is impractical to occupy.
  • Furniture removal or storage.
  • Premium sockets, smart-home equipment and unusually high circuit counts.

EICR before a full rewire

An Electrical Installation Condition Report can help establish whether a complete rewire is actually required. Current examples run from about £150 for a 1-bedroom flat to around £375 for a 5-bedroom house. It is useful to separate diagnosis from the later installation decision.
