Source selection
Important price claims should be supported by identifiable, dated UK sources. We prefer official sources for regulations, grants and published statistical series. Practical construction and home-improvement price ranges can also use established industry cost guides when they provide clearer project-level benchmarks.
Source dates and freshness
We distinguish between the date a publisher updated a web page and the date of the underlying price table or statutory figure. A page labelled as updated in the current year is not treated automatically as current-year price data. Older benchmarks remain labelled as older or legacy records where they are still useful for context, and a fresher benchmark is preferred where available.
Sourced facts vs modelling
A calculator output may combine a sourced baseline with UK Home Costs assumptions for region, project size, complexity, condition or specification. We label those adjustments as modelling rather than presenting them as observed market statistics.
Consistency across the site
Where a guide and calculator refer to the same project, they should use compatible underlying benchmarks. Shared registries and source mappings are used so a change can be reflected across related pages instead of maintaining disconnected numbers manually.
Production integrity checks
The production build validates key content relationships. Current guides must map to a calculator, source support and at least one topic category; calculator and location benchmark references must resolve; duplicate identifiers are rejected; and every published regional model must have a location hub. These checks do not prove that a price is correct, but they prevent several classes of silent publishing error.
Review cycle
High-intent cost pages are reviewed when newer benchmark data becomes available and when a grant, regulation, tax treatment or other material condition changes. A visible review date does not mean every contractor price in the UK changed on that date; it records our content review cycle.
Corrections
When a material error is identified, we correct the underlying page or data record and check related calculators, category tables and regional examples that may rely on the same value. Minor wording or formatting changes do not necessarily change the review date.
Independence and advertising
Advertising does not determine the values used by our calculators, the sources selected for editorial cost data or the conclusions of our guides. If affiliate relationships, sponsored placements or lead-generation services are introduced, commercial elements will be identified separately from editorial cost information.
Limitations
Published figures are planning information, not quotations. Site conditions, specification, access, contractor availability and professional requirements can materially change a real project cost. Users should compare itemised local quotes and obtain qualified advice where appropriate.
